Cranial Osteopathy Courses for UK Osteopaths

The Rollin E. Becker Institute is a new SCTF approved organisation that has been set up to provide cranial osteopathy to post-graduate UK osteopaths. The courses announced so far are varied, and although not part of a 'pathway' as in the SCC, form a very interesting series of workshops, lectures and seminars in Cranial Osteopathy or 'Osteopathy in the Cranial Field' as it is sometimes known.

Among general information about the organisation and its mission, there is an online application form for immediate registration for a course and a course schedule giving detailed information about the upcoming events.

I would recommend any UK osteopath takes at least one of these high quality courses to improved their understanding of the various aspects of cranial work, which helps to inform improvements in our breadth of practice.

Osteopathy is a way of detecting and treating damaged parts of the body such as muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints. When the body is balanced and efficient, just like a well tuned engine, it will function with the minimum of wear and tear, leaving more energy for living.

Osteopaths treat a variety of common conditions including discomfort resulting from changes to posture in pregnancy; postural problems caused by driving or work strain, the pain of arthritis and sports injuries.

The General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) is one of 13 organisations in the UK known as health and social care regulators. Each organisation oversees the health and social care professions by regulating individual professionals.
The Statutory Register of the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) opened on 9 May 1998. The title "osteopath" became protected by law from 9 May 2000 when the transitional registration period ended. As a result it is a criminal offence, liable to prosecution, to describe oneself as an osteopath in the UK unless registered with the GOsC.

The GOsC regulates, promotes and develops the profession of osteopathy, maintaining a Statutory Register of those entitled to practise osteopathy. Only practitioners meeting the high standards of safety and competency are eligible to join this register. Proof of good health, good character and professional indemnity insurance cover is also a requirement.

The Practice at Oakham

The practice was set up in 2003, and patients with a wide variety of musculoskeletal complaints have since attended for gentle, professional and safe osteopathic treatment.

Situated in the centre of Oakham (click for address and map), there is parking to the front of the practice building, and a short stay car park 2 minutes walk away. There is level access to the practice building, with wide doorways to facilitate disabled use.
